Youth & Community Center / VFW Post

Completed in 2009, this youth center provides services and programs to enrich the lives of young people intellectually, recreationally and socially. To achieve these goals, this 30,000 sf facility includes a gymnasium, project rooms, classrooms, informal gathering spaces, and a teaching kitchen. The building also has a 35-person meeting room and a 350-person multi-purpose community gathering space. It is a LEED Silver building, incorporating renewable and green building materials, high efficiency energy systems, solar panels and extensive interior day lighting. Several design features such as rotating panel walls, glass partitions, and tackboard walls allow the users the customize their space for a variety of activities and uses. Primary building materials include a zinc facade, glazed aluminum curtainwall, and bamboo for millwork and flooring. Beneath the gymnasium, a VFW serves the neighborhood veterans by providing social space for camaraderie and events.
